Church End House, N3
Barnet

The ground floor extension and garden design to this Edwardian house in Finchley was conceived as one half of a pair of extensions to a pair of semi-detached houses.
The L-shaped extension provides a kitchen, dining room, linear utility zone and lounging area with a log fire; all open to each other but well defined as separate by the massing of structural elements and by natural and artificial lighting. Concealed lighting, as well as down-lighters and floor lights are used to provide dramatically varied moods. A large rooflight to the side brings light deep into the kitchen. The extension allows for sociable cooking and dining and lounging and is a brilliant space for entertaining.

A new terrace acts as an extra room by the family in good weather. Further zoning of the garden includes a secluded seating area for occasional barbeques and acts as the teenagers’ sanctuary.
