Church End Apartment, N3
Barnet

The young owners of this one bedroom garden flat wanted to extend their kitchen and gain a dining room but were worried that their limited budget would not allow a good result. The design solution arrived at was to
re-orientate the apartment, placing an extended open plan kitchen and dining room on the South side, opening onto a new sunny terrace and to move the bedrooms to the opposite side. The resulting 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment enjoys a strong link to the patio garden through full width and height glazed sliding doors. A band of light, which runs along the kitchen wall and out through the glass to the garden wall, strengthens the link between the terrace and the kitchen and dining room. The effect is further emphasised by the extension of the kitchen worktop into terrace to a barbecue, creating a wonderful social space with a Mediterranean feel. The whole project was managed within budget by careful choice and sourcing of material and fitting and fixtures.
